Turtle Tours at Long Point Eco-Adventures


Explore the world of turtles and wetland conservation with two unique tour experiences, both starting at our on-site Turtle Hatchery & Exhibit and taking you into the heart of the UNESCO-protected Turkey Point Marsh.

Journey to the Water: Two Unique Turtle Experiences

This summer, join us for one (or both!) of our Journey to the Water experiences, immersive tours that bring you face-to-face with Ontario’s native turtle species and the conservation efforts protecting them. Both tours begin at our on-site Turtle Hatchery and include guided interpretation, ecological insight, and a scenic walk through the Long Point Biosphere.

From July 26 to September 1, 2025, interpreters will be onsite daily from 3 PM to 5 PM to share information about turtle species, life cycles, road ecology, and conservation efforts. Drop in to explore the hatchery, ask questions, and learn how you can help protect endangered turtles.

What’s included

This 2-hour guided tour begins at the Turtle Hatchery, where guests meet hatchlings and learn about local turtle species, conservation efforts, and the Wildlife Road Watch program. The experience continues with a walk to our turtle exclusion fence, built to protect nesting sites and reduce road mortality.

From there, guests follow a scenic trail down the ravine, where guides (and possibly UWaterloo students) explain our radio-tracking study, which monitors hatchlings’ journey from nest to marsh.

Note: This tour does not include a hatchling release.
Minimum age: 10 years
Dress code: Long sleeves and pants, rubber boots, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and water recommended.

What’s included

This immersive 3-hour tour begins with a visit to our Turtle Hatchery, where guests meet hatchlings and learn about local conservation efforts, including the Wildlife Road Watch program. From there, enjoy a guided walk to our turtle exclusion fence and down a forested trail, where guides explain nesting behavior, road ecology, and our radio-tracking study in partnership with the University of Waterloo.

The highlight of the experience is a live hatchling release into the Turkey Point Marsh, offering guests a rare chance to take part in real-world conservation.

Minimum age: 10 years

Dress code: Long sleeves and pants, rubber boots, hat, sunscreen, bug spray, and water recommended.
