She's got zip! - News ReleaseAugust 7th, 2009Port Dover's Opal Cleeves, 84, knows the important of being young at heart. "Just do it," she says of any adventure that comes her way. So when the opportunity arose to fly through trees at 75 feet above the Earth's floor at the Long Point Eco-Adventure ziplining canopy tour Thursday, she didn't hesitate. Cleeves was joined by three generations of her family, including daughter Dianne Kitchen, granddaughter Sandy Pond with her husband Brian and great granddaughter Gillian Pond. "I'm proud of her," said Kitchen. "She gave it everything she's got." Gillian Pond was in awe of her great-grandmother's sense of adventure. " It's kind of amazing," she said. "She's more adventurous than you, Dad." Cleeves is the oldest person to hitch onto the cable at the new tourism destination, though it isn't her first foray with adventure. After trying parasailing, Cleeves travelled to Alaska on a cruise, where she zipped down a line at 60 miles an hour. She never guessed she could have a similar experience in her own |
